Patrimoine Weekend-- Saturday and Sunday

My touring started Saturday around 1 PM, when one of the IES instructors took a group of us (all my friends, haha) on a tour of a few of the big spots for Patrimoine weekend. We met at St. Michel again, and then decided to go through a farmer's market on the way to our first stop, L'Hotel de Ville. The market had lots of free food! They handed out bags of fruit with apples, grapes, and garlic (?). I also got to try escargot for free. There is photographic evidence that I did so!

Escargot!

There was also a chocolate stand! Ahh it looked so good!! I didn't want to carry any around, though, so I didn't buy any.

The farmer's market

Our next stop was the Hotel de Ville, which, by the way, is not a hotel. It's the city hall. I can safely say that there aren't many city halls in the U.S. that can live up to this one. It used to house a bunch of merchants, and the word greve, which means strike in French, originated in this house (I forgot the whole epistomology, but it was something to that effect).

Musicians Guild!

Mirror picture!!

La salle des fetes-- literally party room, figuratively ballroom.

Pretty sweet ceiling.

Random beautiful glass work in the middle of the room.

The library!

Grand assembly hall for delegates to meet.

Where the boss sits :-)

Mayor's office. Pretty spacious, but not that elegant, right?

Wrong. Check out the ceiling.

Such a pretty building!!

After the Hotel de Ville, we went over to Saint-Chapelle, which is exactly what you think it is-- a church.

Saint Louis!! He's kind of a big deal around here.

The chapel!

Too bad about the construction, because Ste. Chapelle is really a stunner!

Rose window!

By this point, everyone else was exhausted. I, intrepid tourist that I am, continued on to the Conciergie myself.

I then walked around the outside of Notre Dame for a bit and went home.

I then met another friend at the Champs-Elysees for a late dinner. We wandered around and shopped and took photos. The service at dinner was incredibly horrible-- no one even came by to offer us something to drink for almost half an hour! The food, though, was pretty awesome.

Huge Sephora!

Arc de Triomphe!

So ended Saturday.

Sunday, I slept really late. While Katherine was at mass, I went to the park and read for awhile. There were tons of people around playing soccer. I then met Brianna for lunch at a place near the center of Paris. We had a croque monsieur, a salad, and a desert crepe for 9 euros! Such an amazing price for that area. Food is sooo expensive here. After the food, we tried to find the mass-goers, but were unsuccessful and so finally decided to go to l'Assemblee Nationale (National Assembly) to finish off our Patrimoine excursions.

Hehe it looks like Albert Pujols. The rest were pretty pictures of the Assemblee Nationale. After that, we went shopping and had dinner. I ended up buying fast food at a place 2 or 3 doors down from where I live for my cheapest meal yet.

That's all of Saturday and Sunday! Hopefully tomorrow I'll put up Monday and Tuesday.

P.S. Email me if you want answers to the quiz :-)

  3. I do, and I responded to your last one too about what we had for dinner! This time I have ravioli in a marinara sauce. It was exactly what I was craving. If the service hadn't been awful, I would have heartily enjoyed the whole meal.

  5. Well the real question is, "Are you able to know, in France, that the Rams won yesterday?"
