My second day of class was largely uneventful. I mostly stayed awake. Two hours is a looong time to sit still. I'm not very good at it. After class, I was supposed to have lunch with a friend but she had another appointment so I had to find some other people. They were having coffee on our street, so I ordered lunch, not realizing that they were planning to go to a lunch place after this-- so I had to order something else at the lunch place or sit by myself in the IES Center for an hour. I chose to take the 4.5 euro hit instead of an hour of solitude. I don't know if I'll pick that route every time, but while we're still getting to know people, it seemed like a good idea.
I stuck around so that I could go to the Musée D'Orsay in the afternoon. It was forbidden to take pictures inside the museum, so I took some of the outside:
There are lots of sweet statues, like that elephant, right outside the converted train station. It was once again a beautiful day so there were a ton of people outside.
Kylie tried to take a picture of me with the museum. A for effort.
From standing on the bridge crossing the Seine. You get a much better idea of its size and general awesomeness from this perspective. I still can't get over the fact that this awesome museum, in which I saw everything from Degas to Rodin to Monet to Van Gogh (though they're renovating part of it so most of the Monet is gone) to the super famous Seurat circus painting. They have so much Degas! And a lot of big, beautiful impressionist paintings by people I've never heard of. We took a guided tour at first, during which we got to wear secret service type ear pieces in order to hear her without her having to shout (a genius idea in my opinion).
Tonight we just hung out, had a late dinner and did homework. Time flies when you finish dinner at 9:15 PM and don't know exactly when it's going to start...
Tomorrow, I'm going on a boat dinner cruise at night and don't have many meetings during the day. Expect more than 5 pictures.
À demain!
If you missed the Monet, you really have to go here. http://www.musee-orangerie.fr/ They have some amazing (and huge!) ones from when he was losing his sight O_o
